After assessment our professional team formulates follow up plans and rehabilitation programmes for children with developmental problems.
There are 3 main types of follow up and referral:
Specialist Medical Services: For example: Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Department of various (occupational, physio-, speech) therapies, for follow up and treatment as needed.
Preschooler: Referral to Pre-school Rehabilitation Services, Social Welfare Department as needed, which includes: Early Education and Training Centre, On-site Pre-school Rehabilitation Services, Integrated Programme in Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centre, or Special Child Care Centre.
School-aged children: Referral to Integrated Education or Special Education under Education Bureau as needed.
Family Service: If there are family problems, we will refer the families to Integrated Family Service Centres, or other social services for follow-up and support.
Role of parents: After going through the process of showing concern, assessment, diagnosis and referral, parents need to continue to monitor their children’s progress and communicate with teachers, therapists or specialists, and accompany their children to make strides on their growing path.
Child Assessment Service will arrange follow-up services for preschoolers before entering primary school as needed. The follow-up modes include questionnaires and telephone interviews, parent workshops or assessment services.
